To the start of the viaferrata Follow the signs that start at the parking area of the Tende railway station. Up the Rue de France through the old town then by the foot of the clock tower and through the cemetery. The path climbs above the village on the western slope of the St-Saveur outcrop
ViaFerrata (Video) It starts animatedly with a quite long monkey bridge! Easier if you already have some via experience! The climb is easy – lots of contact with the rock. You can cross a deep cleft to the St-Saveur chapel on a footbridge or by a long cable traverse.
Grotte des Hérétiques: Things get tougher here as the pitch up the rock face gets ever steeper. Impossible to retrace your steps from here on! You can only advance carefully from step to step, with very long strides, (the reason why no children are allowed). This section ends with a cable traverse.
