The via starts with the vertical ascent of an 80-metre slab, leading to a ‘hanging Mediterranean garden’ crossed by a series of ledges and risers. The scenery changes when you come to a 30-metre Nepalese bridge crossing the cascades and landing you halfway up a giant pillar. At this point, lucky you, you have only 100 m more to climb. Once you’re at the top of the pillar, the route stays on the crest and offers impressive views over the Var valley, Verdon, Estéron, Vésubie, Roudoule, the villages of Mallaussène and Villars-sur-Var, and the mediaeval city of Entrevaux
A small limestone gulley on the north slope will bring you to the first summit. Next, a short descent to reach a 35-m monkey bridge that you can avoid by taking an escape route overlooking the pine and oak woods. Up again to the highest point on the via (777 m), with the alternative of bypassing it by an overhanging traverse on the north slope.
Ten metres down to the cable traverse launching pad – an 85-metre slide that brings you to the final high point; again, if you prefer it, there’s an escape route.
DescentThe escape route ends with a 20.metre descent, on the Ubac side, to the picnic area and the path down.
