ViaFerrata.Org – tips

Not, repeat not, recommended for beginners!!  (too many rescuers comes every week. Respect their work and don't disturb them by being stupid)

Telephone beforehand, the number of climbers on the via is limited.

Climb it early – sometimes traffic jams like the Paris périphérique (but less pollution)
If the first section is too crowded, start (at road level) on the more strenuous second section.
Carry water – you’re fully exposed to the Provençal sun.

Viaferrata climbing  (Video)

The Baous de Caster: a footbridge, 30 metres up, then the real via ferrata feeling begins with a first wall, and an overhang that might stop you. 300 metres of void behind you before you cross to the opposite sunburnt wall by another footbridge. If you decide not to cross, there’s an escape exit.

Second section:

Physically demanding, with numerous overhangs. The icing on the cake is a monkey bridge with a fine view of Peille village. Unavoidable photo stop.

In the eastern cave, you can choose either to go on to the two remaining sections, or to call it a day. You can tackle the notorious rope net or avoid it. At the top of the net, you can take the easier route on the right, or attack the Surplomb de la Justice. This pitch, requiring strength and stamina, is only for very fit experienced climbers. Intense emotion… even fright!

Above this option, comes a section that is not equipped with footholds…to be taken by force of arms and technique.
After this difficult section comes the cable traverse (zip line). Be careful! There’s a mattress at the end of the trajectory to save your life if needed! Don’t use the Petzl Speed pulley. Lightweights can slide freely, but heavyweights (90kg or more) had better brake if they don’t want to test the theory of free-falling weights.

Descent

A shaded path down near the via; 15 pleasant minutes – and a good view of the cemetery…!
