ViaFerrata.org . tips

La Brigue is a marvellous place. A bit like “Asterix in Corsica”, with little old men sitting on the bench at the entrance to the village watching the Romans go by. If you have time, spend a night there. Explore the alleyways, soak up the tranquility, the restfulness and the human warmth.

We tested it for you and the experience was unforgettable

Start of the ViaFerrata

Obligatory visit to the Tourist Office – very friendly – to pay the entry fee and accede to the via entrance. (there is a door at the entrance of the via ferrata!

You can not hire equipment and the pulley for the zip line in La Brigue. Go to Tende.

Via Ferrata Climbing

Start by climbing a wall on the right of an overhanging cliff; then traverse to the left across an exposed slab, which is, to be blunt, decidedly strenuous.

After a short vertical  overhanging pitch, you reach the first monkey bridge across a gulley. It ‘s just an appetiser…you have six more to cross. The rock face steepens abruptly and by a flight of giant natural steps you emerge onto a superb outcrop.

A last little effort and you’ll reach the cable traverse (45 minutes). Here you can quit the via and regain the village, or take off into the void…

This 115-metre tyrolienne connects the two sections. Be careful, using this installation requires experience and a clear understanding of the operation.

Briefly, the pulley is clipped onto one of the cables (the panel shows which one). To the other cable you attach the snap fastening that links your safety lines together. That’s it; you’re ready…Let’s go, Tarzan.

The second section: six monkey bridges are waiting for you, with magnificent views over the village. It is south-facing, so take something to drink!
Past the cable crossing, you make an exposed traverse to the left on an attractive red slab followed by  a series of spurs connected by monkey bridges. After the last – and longest; you have time to appreciate the 27 metres – you come to a broad ledge. Follow it west ward for 50 m to reach the beginning of the descent.

Descent

Equipped with steps and cables at first, it joins the path down towards the village.
