The road access depends on the Moiry dam but if the road is closed you can walk to the viaferrata. (about 1h30 from the center of Grimentz) Times From the park: 10 minutes Via Ferrata: 1h30 - 2h Back to the park: two options : 10 min by the road, 40 min with the walking path Get on the A9 motorway Geneva – Lausanne – Martigny – Sion – Sierre. Leave it at the second Sierre exit and follow the “Val d’Anniviers” signs (roundabout on the right, and then right). Up the Val d’Anniviers to Grimentz (25 km). Then head for the Moiry Dam (8 km) by car, or by post bus in the high season. By Train
Contact the CFF . In Sion, take the bus To the start of the viaferrata 25 kms from Sierre, you come to the picturesque village of Grimentz. From there you have only to follow the road 8 kms to the Moiry dam, by car or post bus. There is parking available at the foot of the dam. Continue on foot up the road for 150m, then up to your right to find the start of the via ferrata. There should be signposts along the way.
Viaferrata climbing
The first part of the via ferrata is up a vertical wall. It climbs steeply and puts a lot of strain on your arms – some stretches are physically strenuous. It ends on an airy outcrop with an gorgeous view over the Val d’Anniviers. Next you traverse across an easy ledge with a small vertical slab to reach the second part, as well as an escape route (which you may need because…)
Frankly, the second part is very difficult. You have to be in very good shape especially your arms! It starts with an overhanging traverse for 20 m!! This is extremely demanding and not to be tackled by everyone.
Once the overhang is passed, the route is a little easier on your shaky arms, but very exposed and still quite taxing. Take the time to admire the magnificent view over the Moiry dam with its turquoise waters; and to feel the exhilaration.
The exit passes just in front of an old army bunker. Then you have only to follow the cable back to the shelter.
Zip Line The Zip line is 85m long , height 60m with a drop of 20 m. This is a rope zip line and you can do it if you know how to use it. For safety reason, you need to look for the key at the restaurant (in Moiry dam) DescentFrom the final exit, follow the marked trail down to the Moiry dam. Then you have achoice, either – take the road back, quicker but not very interesting: 10 minutes (through the tunnel), or – cross the dam wall and take the footpath back: 40 minutes. (Bus stop at the Via Ferrata parking area)
Lodging - Hotel - Restaurant You have a camping in Grimentz and many hotels and restaurants. Plan to stay in this very charming village. It is simply beautiful Pictures
