Characteristics

For beginners or children (“even if many adults are big children…” thought the Petit Prince.)
The entire route overlooks the famous Devil’s Bridge
Careful: the route is equipped with pegs and stakes, not standard via ferrata (as we know in France and Switzerland) steps. Can be dangerous.

ViaFerrata.Org – tips

Reckon on a half day for this via ferrata, then jump in your car, go over the Susten pass and make your way up to the Talli cabin (it’s not very far this way). Then, the next day, you can treat yourself to the Talli ferrata and switch from granite to limestone. What a great idea for a weekend.

Because of the stakes / pegs used instead of the traditional steps, make sure you have hiking boots with good soles.

To the start  of the viaferrata

The via ferrata starts near the Devil’s Bridge café, beside the memorial to Souvarov’s army (50 metres from the road and the parking lot).

ViaFerrata

It climbs in these magic surrounding, all granite, with a few, sometimes steep, grassy patches. There is cable all the way. There are some bars, quite a lot of pegs and two ladders, but, happily, nothing for the pull-up specialists. Two-thirds of the way up there is a bench for a rest and above all for the view…

The setting is really marvellous: a mountain stream running through the gorge and alpine summits all around.

After about 1½ hours’ climb, you’ll find the traditional visitors’ book (by the way, don’t forget to sign ours), then a short ladder and a few more steps in the grass will take you to the flag that is visible even from the starting point.

Descent

From there on, the route is clearly marked (white/blue/white) down towards Andermatt, then along the road to rejoin your car. The whole descent takes 1-1½ hours
