When can you climb it Closed during the winter GPS Start of the Via ferrata N 46.13.454 E 007.25.166 Altitude: 995 m.
Times From the park: 5 minutes Via Ferrata: 25 minutes Back to the park: 15 minutes Take the Lausanne – Sierre motorway towards Brig, leave it at the second Sion exit (Hospital) and head for Bramois. There, cross the bridge and take the Nax road. You will reach the via exactly 5.8 kms after the bridge (this is important!). No doubt for reasons of cost, the signpost indicating the start of the via is about as big as a postage stamp.
So when you have 5.8 km on your tripmeter and you reach a hairpin bend, you’ve arrived. Park on the left. Go to Sion. Then take the bus to Nax. Contact CFF , for schedule In front of you, the impressive Belvedere cliff: 240 metres of rock, sometimes vertical
Rules to follow. Never leave the marked route – the numerous ledges are riddled with often impassable slabs, and the footing can be slippery. Essential equipment: a helmet (the rock is crumbly), harness, Y sling line with shock absorbers, self-locking karabiners, rope for children and novices. The first section of the via, up to the first escape route, is composed of large walls, linked by a series of ledges and slabs. You are in luck, there’s a small monkey bridge, needing a bit of technique and strength at the far end (but nothing serious), slightly exposed, too. When you come to the second monkey bridge, enjoy it; the end of the via is only a few minutes away.
The difficulties The tricky section of this via ferrata was eliminated in the summer of 2006; the cable and hand/foot holds were removed. There are practically no difficulties left (a part of the exit of the monkey bridge), so it is suitable for children and beginners.
In any case, you can always get up to the Balcony on foot by the normal path.
Descent To enjoy the view, you have to pass by the Balcony. Then follow the regular path down. No real problems; a few steep bits and a bit tricky if wet or in the rain. Pictures
